About
Hi, I’m Rachel.
When I was seven, my grandmother bought me a movie called Mrs. ‘Arris Goes to Paris (starring Angela Landsbury). I still own it on VHS, but am waiting anxiously for Netflix to add it to their streaming service.
I became obsessed with the power of a lovely dress and started making things for all of my stuffed animals. It was during this phase that I discovered, with shock, the swooping curve of a sleeve cap.
I soon began making clothes for humans too, and a few years later decided to study costume design at the University of Michigan.
After college I worked in a lovely tailoring shop (C.D. McClatchey Tailoring) where I saw first hand, the joy of customers when they tried on a garment made or altered, just for them.
This inspired my entry into the world of technical design & patternmaking. I particularly love thinking about the person who will use the product- how will they wear it? How can I improve it so they feel enabled, empowered and like the best version of themselves?
